Why is riddles so useful for the development of the child?

Riddles help develop memory, figurative thinking, quick mental reactions. They are useful both for younger children and for older children. The main thing is to choose the difficulty of the riddle so that the child is able to solve it.

It teaches a child to compare features of different objects, to find commonalities in them, and thus develops his ability to classify objects, rejecting their unimportant features. In other words, with the help of the riddle forms the basis of theoretical creative thinking.

The riddle develops the child's powers of observation. The more observant a child is, the better and faster he/she guesses riddles. What a wonderful process occurs, for example, in the head of a child when he quickly finds the similarity between the grandfather, dressed in a hundred fur coats, and onions, or between the girl sitting in prison with a scythe outside, and carrots! A child who has learned to guess riddles can be given the task of composing his own riddles.
