Forgot Hotmail password? restart it!
One of the most common causes of Hotmail login problems is password loss. So if you forgot this vital information, follow the easy step-by-step instructions below to reset it and gain access to your Hotmail Account Password change not working.
On a slightly related note. Forgetting the password is common. So once you reset it, remember to have automatic login disabled. This way, you would at least have to enter it every time you access Hotmail emails. And make sure that the new password you set is not something very simple because this makes the account susceptible to being hacked.
"Forgot your password" link on the Hotmail login page
In the Hotmail login section, just below the log-in fields, there is a "Forgot your password?" Click on it to start the account password reset process.
You will be taken to the Reset Your Password screen, below. Enter your Windows Live ID (full email address) followed by the squiggly characters shown in the image (CAPTCHA) and then click the "Continue" button.
Why do you need to enter the alphabet and numbers on the image? To prove to Hotmail that you are human. The point is that humans can read and understand wavy text, but it will pose problems for automated programs. The "bad guys" create these kinds of programs to access or change email account passwords. By the way, if you can't figure out the characters displayed, click the button with two arrows to refresh the image and get another set. Visually impaired people should use the button with the speaker's image to listen to an audio clip.
Two ways to get your Hotmail password
There are two ways to reset Hotmail's password. The first involves proving your identity by providing your location information and answering the security question you set when you created your Hotmail account. The second way is to send the password reset instructions to your alternative email; however, this works only when this information was provided at the time the Hotmail account was created.
Enter your location information and answer the security question
Let's go ahead and try to recover the forgotten Hotmail password using the location details and security question.
Select your country/region from the dropdown menu, enter your zip code, choose the correct state/territory, and type the answer to the displayed security question. Please note that the address fields will differ based on your geographic location and what you provided at the time of account creation.
Assuming you have successfully provided Hotmail with the correct security question answer and location information, you will reach the final screen through which you can change your password.
