Similarly, you can check the status of some other email server if you don't use iCloud Mail.

Change your notification settings

If you're getting delayed notifications or no email notifications at all in your Mail app, it's likely that your Notification settings aren't configured correctly on iPhone and iPad.

Let's clear them up!


Head over to the Settings app once again and expand the Notifications setting.

Now tap on the Mail app or any other third party app. (The same step works for all apps)

Now turn on the switch next to Allow notifications and Time-sensitive notifications.

Note: If you use the new focus mode on your iOS device, don't forget to add the Mail app in the Allowed apps section.


Modify get mail settings

If you can't refresh emails on your iPhone and iPad, there is most likely something wrong with the Recovery settings in Apple Mail.

It is advisable to set the Get setting to Push or Get. Let's see if the Recovery Settings are wrong.


  • Go to App Settings and go to Mail Settings.

  • Open the Accounts section and tap 'Get New Data'.

  • Make sure the setting should be set to 'Automatically'.

  • Now tap on your email address and change the Manual option to Get or Send.

Check if the mail server is down

Before you begin troubleshooting, check the status of the mail server. If you're using iCloud Mail, check Apple's System Status website and make sure the server is up and running.

And if you're using any other email provider, visit the provider's website. Contact your provider or system administrator if you are unable to log in through your browser. Otherwise, go to the next solution.


Check your Get Mail settings

  • Launch Settings → Mail → Accounts.

  • Tap Get New Data.

  • Here, make sure that Automatically is selected.

  • Also, tap on the email ID and select Get or Send instead of Manual.


See your notification settings

  • Launch Settings → Notifications.

  • Select the mail app or third-party app you use.

  • Here, turn on Allow notifications and time-sensitive notifications, if you haven't already.


Enable mobile data for the mail app

  • Go to Settings → Mobile data.

  • Scroll down to the Mail app or third-party app and make sure it's turned on.


Check your iPhone storage

If your iPhone storage is full to the brim, you will not be able to receive new emails on your iPhone. Go to Settings → General → iPhone Storage to check the available space. Accordingly, wipe some data from your device.

Also, a full iCloud storage could prevent you from sending or receiving emails. Therefore, check your status as well; go to Settings → → iCloud and free up some storage if needed.


Delete the email account and set it up again

  • Open Settings → Mail.

  • Tap Accounts and select the problematic email account.

  • Tap Remove account → Remove from my iPhone to confirm.


Open Settings → General → Transfer & Reset iPhone.

  • Tap Reset and select Reset all settings.

  • Enter the passcode and touch Reset all settings to confirm the action. Reset all settings
