What is Teeth Whitening?
Favorites
Description

In-chair teeth whitening is where a high concentrate bleach is applied to the teeth. The solution is then activated using a teeth whitening lamp, which is also referred to as laser whitening or in-chair teeth whitening .

Alternative methods of whitening such as over-the-counter whitening kits can be less effective as they use reduced amounts of bleach. Furthermore, trays that are not customised for your mouth can cause bleach to leach onto the gumline. When bleach is exposed to oral tissue for long periods of time it can cause adverse effects such as chemical burns.

What is the process?

To begin your teeth whitening treatment, the technician will protect your gums, cheeks, tongue and lips by using a cheek retractor. This prevents the bleach solution from moving away from your teeth and onto sensitive areas such as the lips.

Next, they will paint whitening gel onto the tooth surface. A led whitening light is used to activate the solution which causes the gel penetrate deeper into the tooth enamel. In general, this process takes around 1 hour.

Once treatment is completed, you will be able to see results instantly.

What results can I expect?

In-Chair Teeth Whitening.  can whiten teeth by up to 14 shades. After your treatment you may experience dramatically whiter teeth. However, this is dependent on the colour and type of enamel you have naturally.

Generally, individuals with yellow coloured teeth see better results than white, brown or grey teeth. The results to last around 12 months. Your diet, medications and smoking will affect this time frame.
