Communication Skills for Intimacy: Intimacy is one of the most basic components of healthy and fulfilling relationships. Many people do not realize the importance of effective verbal and non-verbal communications when they are seeking out companionship or even serious relationships with other people. Verbal communication is key in conveying both visual and non-visual messages. This includes tone, inflection, facial expression, pitch, speech pattern, and even hand gestures. There are numerous types of non-verbal communication that teachers and trainers recommend students learn in interpersonal courses- discussed below are but some:


Listening Skills: The ability to listen effectively can be one of the more difficult interpersonal skills to master. People who do not listen to and respond appropriately to the messages they get from another person often end up feeling misunderstood and less connected to those they care about. The ability to hear other people's messages clearly and understand what they are trying to say is critical to building relationships and increasing productivity within the workplace and in social settings. For those who do not know how to effectively listen to others, teachers and mentors offer courses in this area of communication skills.


Informational Skills: Informative communication skills refer to a topic or idea, whether for research, education, or marketing. One type of informative communication skills is interactive learning. In this type of learning, students gain insight, knowledge, and understanding through a variety of interactions. Some of these include group discussions, interviews, and role-playing. These skills allow learners to develop their critical thinking and analytical skills in order to solve real-life problems. Teachers also use interpersonal communication courses to help their students develop skills in persuasive communication, negotiation, compromise, and non-violent conflict resolution.


Verbal Communication Skills: Speaking, written, or audible communication skills involve communication with other people, either individually or in groups. Communication is the exchange of information or ideas through the means of words, tone, and body language. These courses teach students how to build successful, fluent, expressive conversations by identifying appropriate key words, making clear assumptions and clear responses, and avoiding hurtful words or actions. A successful interpersonal communication course teaches students how to express themselves clearly and assertively. It also teaches students how to listen carefully to others and respond accordingly.
